Converting spaces in homes into functional wine storage facilities is still increasing in demand in many areas in the United States. Only trained and experienced companies will be able to create a stunning design for your wine collection. In New Jersey, Coastal Custom Wine Cellars transformed a tiny area in a home into a wow-worthy luxury residential wine cellar. Find out more about the successful completion of this project.

Amazing Conversion of a Small Space into an Eye-Catching Home Wine Cellar

If you have an extra spacious room in your home, and you want to use it to entertain guests, family, and friends, then a dining-room-to-wine room conversion may be perfect for you.

When starting your wine room project, you have to sit down with your chosen builder and discuss all of your specific requirements with them. In this stage, a carefully assessment is done before creating a design tailored your specific needs.

Whether you have a small or large space for your wine cellar project, a reliable builder will be able to build your dream wine cellar according to your aesthetic, functional, and financial requirements. Recently, Coastal Custom Wine Cellars completed a home wine cellar installation project in New Jersey. They transformed an area in the dining room into a luxury wine cellar for the client’s collection.

Features of the Original Room and the Challenges Faced by Coastal Custom Wine Cellars

The area to be utilized was 9 feet tall, 15 feet wide, and 1.67 feet deep.  Space constraints did not stop Coastal Custom Wine Cellars from helping their client build a wine room that would enhance the aesthetic appeal of the home.

With the room’s depth, it was not possible to provide enough space for maneuvering around the wine room. This posed a challenge to the Coastal team. They were able to find an innovative solution to this problem.

3-Dimensional Drawings: Luxurious Design Suitable for a Small Residential Wine Cellar in New Jersey

In order to provide their clients with a better visualization of their completed wine cellar, Coastal Custom Wine Cellars offered a free 3D design package when you work with them. The package included different plan views and elevations. The drawings showed the styles, dimensions, and bottle capacities of the wine racks on every wall in the room.

After presenting the first draft of drawings, the client can make changes to the design. When the owner has approved the CAD images, the construction can be started.

In this particular project, Coastal Custom Wine Cellars had to incorporate custom designs so the wine racks would fit perfectly into the small wine room and create a wine display area with a “wow” factor. They utilized Premium Redwood and combined various racking styles.

Properties and Advantages of Premium Redwood Wine Racks

Wood is a favorite material in wine rack construction because of its many benefits. It is widely known for its ability to blend well with any décor, flexibility, and durability. Moreover, it also adds warmth to a living space. In a wine storage room where there is no wine cellar cooling system installed, wood is an ideal option because it does not conduct heat.

In this luxury residential wine cellar project in New Jersey, Coastal Custom Wine Cellars used Premium Redwood. This type of wood is mostly found in California. Its natural reddish tone makes it a great option for wine collectors who want a cellar with a timeless appeal.

Premium Redwood wine racks also exhibit burl clusters that add character to the overall wine cellar design. They are also less prone to shrinking, warping, and infestation caused by mildew and insects.

Custom Wine Rack Features

Mediocre wine racks will not enhance the beauty of your wine cellar. You must be wise in choosing a builder to avoid regrets in the future.

Left and Right Wine Racks

The bottle orientations incorporated on the left and right walls were the same.  The top section consists of individual wine racks for standard bottles and horizontal display shelves for 750ml bottles.

There is a high reveal display row in the middle section, which was intended for highlighting some of the client’s favorite wines. Since the bottles are stored at a 15-degree angle, the cork remains in contact with the wine. This racking style helps preserve the cork’s elasticity and prevents it from shrinking and getting brittle.

A cork that has dried out loses its sealing ability, allowing an unwanted amount of oxygen to mix with the wine. This will result in off flavors and unpleasant aromas.

Coastal Custom Wine Cellars added single bottle wine racks and lattice diamond bins at the bottom section. Diamond bins allow for better organization of the wines.

The same variety or style of wine can be stored in one bin to provide ease in finding specific types of vintages. Compared to solid wood, using lattice wood in the bins allows proper air circulation around the bottles.

Center Wine Racks

The wine racks installed at the center of the wall is the focal point of this luxury residential wine cellar in New Jersey. The topmost section consists of a louver grill cover and box, which hides the wine cooling unit.

Below it is a horizontal display rack with six shelves. The bottles are laid on their side, displaying the wine labels. This type of bottle orientation allows the owner to locate a specific type of vintage in his collection without flipping the bottles.

The bottom section consists of storage bins for three wooden cases, which are ideal for storing wines in bulk.

Wine Cellar Door

In this project, the custom wine racks were constructed with 13.5 inches depth, leaving very little space to move inside the cellar. What Coastal Custom Wine Cellars did was to use a pair of Barolo style glass doors that would fill the 64-inch openings at the center. Both sides of the doors are fixed walls and windows, also made from glass.

Wine Cellar Lighting

Lighting is an important element of a wine cellar. It can make or break the overall design of your wine room. The wrong choice of lighting can damage your prized collection.

In this project, Coastal Custom Wine Cellars installed LED (Light Emitting Diodes) lighting to illuminate this luxury residential wine cellar installed in New Jersey. LED lights are known for their low heat emission, which prevents the wines from heat damage. Proper placement in the wine room and within the racking will create a dramatic effect.

The wine refrigeration unit is the heart of every wine cellar. Without it, your wines will not age gracefully. In this project, a split wine cooling system was used to create a stable environment and achieve quiet operation. The evaporator was concealed in a grill cover, while the condenser (the noisier component) was placed in the garage.
